Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) provides the Live-In Caregiver Program (LCP) for eligible applicants. LCP provides scope for Canadian employers to recruit foreigners who can work while they live to provide care for children or people with dependencies. Such caregivers would be eligible to apply to become permanent residents in Canada. In 2014, CIC announced some changes to the LCP and passed a few guidelines about certain criteria. No Live-In Requirement: The Live-In-Requirement is no longer mandatory, which means the caregiver no longer needs to live with their employers. This decision came after seeing many situations that keep caregivers in a vulnerable situation. Anyhow, there has been a provision provided for both caregiver and employer to come to an agreement about the Live-In Requirement. The agreement the employer needs to submit the ‘Labour Market Impact Assessment’ (LMIA), which should include details about living arrangements for the caregiver. The employer cannot deduct the fees for board and room from the wage of the caregiver. Our Canada immigration consultants will help you to decide about eligibility and other requirements.
